The Illawarra short-stay market is really three markets. Sydney weekenders and Kiama holidaymakers fill beach houses and North Wollongong apartments from Friday to Sunday. Visiting academics, medical staff at Wollongong Hospital and Port Kembla contractors take apartments for weeks. And event weekends at WIN Stadium and the entertainment centre fill the CBD in a single afternoon. The rest of the NSW STRA framework still applies: registration on the NSW Planning Portal, the property ID on the listing, fire safety including interconnected smoke alarms and a displayed evacuation plan, and the code of conduct.
